First, thanks to the mens A-team and ladies team for letting us use training time for our b-team match. Uppköping couldn’t make it last time we should have played on the week-end and if we wouldn’t have received them tonight than there would be no home match against them.
The opposition arrived with 15 players so we lent them 2. We played 4x20 with different referees, as usual it was the same for both sides. Both teams started with predominantly b-team players. Uppköping was the stronger side building their lead by strong individual tackling and a few phases of play with better confidence. They took an early 2 try lead. Attila was dangerous at times with off-loads but we seemed to lack the last finishing phase to get points on the board as well as the commitment to secure the ball in the break-down.
In the second quarter we had the luxury of a few a-team players out wide that gave us the edge we needed to increase our confidence. The forwards did the hard work to supply ball to the backs and we exploited the gaps. Again and again Uppköping came up in defence in uneven lines and we punished them...once straight from their kick-off to our backs. We scored four unanswered tries and continued to push Uppköping for the next quarter. Thanks to nippy Matt and locomotive Larry as well as the other a-team guys for pushing us in front. An unofficial count of a-team players came to an even 5 a side.
The game was evenly matched for a quarter as we substituted some players. We saw some heated scenes in the break-down area, another Uppköping try as well as an Attila try, some good ball stealing by our midfielders and most of us getting tired legs.
The final score was 29-19, five tries to three. Praise to the front row for keeping the scrum stable and good work in midfield from the centers stealing the ball in the tackle. A bbq and some cold drinks rounded off the event.
Next b-team match is in Årsta on the 4th of July, we meet at 12:00 and kick-off against Hammarby at 13:00.
